The beautiful grounds of the Delamore Estate in Cornwood, on the southern fringes of Dartmoor, will be open to the public from 10.30am – 4.30pm every day in May as part of Art @ Delamore 2010. Featuring all sorts of quirky pieces from over 100 established local, national, and international painters and sculptors, such as a life-sized mosaic camel by Carolyn King, and Gordon Dickinson’s steel eagle with a wing span of seven foot, the eighth annual charity exhibition has something for everyone.
This year promise to be the best exhibition yet with several new projects, including a space that will serve soup, salad, sandwiches, cakes and ice-creams. Also, Plymouth’s Creative Arts Facility “Flameworks” will be launching their very own sculpture trail around Delamore’s idyllic trout lake. A landmark of traditional Dartmoor architecture, the Estate was commissioned by Admiral Parker (one of Nelson’s captains at Trafalgar) as a wedding gift in 1859.
“We pride ourselves on bringing a fresh, thought provoking and diverse collection of art to the public every year, from Henry Moore Foundation prize winners to emerging artists” commented Gavin Dollard, one of the Directors of Delamore Arts. And if the huge success of the 2009 exhibition is anything to go by, where over 7000 people visited, then this year will be a must see."
A fantastic family day out, there is also the opportunity to explore the largest Cromlech in the world, where visitors can walk the 200 meters (one meter for each decade) up to the Tomb surrounded by century old rhododendrons in full bloom. “If it’s Delamore time, then it must be summer” says Nicky, who has preened the glorious gardens into shape, in time for the most outstanding springtime flowering on record.
So far Delamore Arts has raised over £70,000 for charities in the South West. This year’s supported charity is The Dartmoor Trust and Dartmoor Archive.
